Richa Chadha launches Musafiri, an eight-episode non-fiction series set first in Mumbai, exploring the city’s layered history, communities and culture. Describing Mumbai as her karmabhoomi and “residence of choice,” she calls the show a love letter to a city she finds relatively safe for women, aiming to reveal untold stories behind streets, markets and heritage landmarks.
Actor-producer Richa Chadha is set to embark on a new creative journey with Musafiri, a culture-driven non-fiction series celebrating India's heritage, living histories, and untold human stories.
The inaugural season will span eight episodes, each dedicated to uncovering the multi-layered subcultures of Mumbai—a city Chadha considers her "residence of choice" and primary creative anchor.
"Mumbai has been my karmabhoomi and I feel exceptional love for it, because it is still relatively safe for women," Chadha said, speaking about the inspiration behind the series.
"Over the years, I've discovered that every street, neighbourhood, market, heritage structure, and every community in this city has a story waiting to be told. Musafiri is my humble love letter to this incredible city."
Moving beyond standard travelogue tropes, Musafiri is envisioned as an ongoing franchise that will systematically traverse different regions of India, documenting lesser-known traditions, marginalised histories, and vibrant local communities.
"This series is about slowing down, observing, and I promise you with each episode you will learn something new. Mumbai is where our journey begins, but it certainly doesn't end here. India is home to countless untold stories, forgotten traditions, remarkable people, and extraordinary places that deserve to be documented and celebrated," she added.
Through the project, the actor aims to encourage audiences to view familiar landscapes with fresh eyes and travel with "curiosity, empathy, and a deeper appreciation for native heritage."
On the film front, Chadha will also be seen teaming up with her actor-husband Ali Fazal in an upcoming, untitled Delhi-set situational comedy, scheduled to go on floors in the latter half of 2026.
Helmed by actor-writer-director Shashie Vermaa—whose on-screen acting credits include Bala, Gunjan Saxena, and Kathal, alongside writing and directing credits for AK47 and Murga Trophy—the film also stars Kumud Mishra.
