A visually impaired hero and a killer on the loose… not the typical ingredients of a Priyadarshan potpoiler, but thrilling nonetheless. Following an intriguing teaser earlier this month, heavy on mood and atmosphere, the makers of Haiwaan have debuted the film’s dark and gripping trailer.
Starring Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan as leads, the film promises a chilling cat-and-mouse thriller. The unsettling trailer opens with Kumar’s voice: “He has seen me, he will kill me, save me sir,” he pleads manically.
We soon learn of a series of disturbing murders—all perpetrated, it turns out, by Kumar’s vengeful killer. This unhinged character in a beanie crosses paths with Khan, who plays the visually impaired hero. Near the end, the trailer takes a mysterious turn, as we witness the two personalities—and bodies?—converge inexplicably.
The trailer also introduces Boman Irani as a judge and Saiyami Kher as a cop. Additionally, the film features Shriya Pilgaonkar, Sharib Hashmi, Rajesh Sharma, Rajpal Yadav and Manoj Joshi in key roles. Haiwaan a remake of Priyadarshan’s own Malayalam neo-noir film, Oppam (2016). In the original, Mohanlal played a visually impaired man with a heightened sense of smell. The antagonist, Vasu, was played by P. Samuthirakani.
Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan are reuniting onscreen after 17 years in Haiwaan. Their iconic screen collaborations include Tashan (2008) and Main Khiladi Tu Anari (1994).
In an earlier conversation with The Hollywood Reporter India, Saif Ali Khan spoke about working with legendary actor Mohanlal on the set of Haiwaan. The Malayalam star is set to make a cameo appearance in the film.
“There was an aura around him,” Khan shared, adding: “It was interesting because of how unassuming and charming he is, like all superstars can be. But what struck me most, was his meticulous performance.”
Haiwaan is produced under KVN Productions and Thespian Films by Venkat K. Narayana and Shailaja Desai Fenn. The tense, jangling background score is by Ronnie Raphael while Pritam has composed the songs. The film releases worldwide in theatres on September 11, 2026.
