Rajinikanth's 'Jailer 2' has shattered records, grossing ₹800 crore globally in just 18 days. The film is now the highest-grossing Tamil movie ever, surpassing his 2018 hit '2.0'. Its success stems from strong domestic and overseas earnings, despite challenges in Hindi multiplex screenings.

Superstar Rajinikanth has rewritten box office history once again. The Nelson Dilipkumar-directed actioner Jailer 2 has officially breached the unprecedented ₹800 crore gross milestone worldwide during its third Sunday.

In doing so, it has cemented its position as the highest-grossing Tamil film of all time, comfortably eclipsing the long-standing record of Rajinikanth's own 2018 sci-fi epic, 2.0.

'Jailer 2' Box Office Collection Latest Update

According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Jailer 2's global gross mounted to an estimated ₹807.25 crore in just 18 days of release. The historic milestone includes a staggering domestic gross of ₹533.75 crore (₹456.30 crore net) and a robust overseas contribution of ₹273.50 crore.

The film's dominance over the domestic market is particularly notable given its distribution strategy. While 2.0 heavily relied on a massive ₹240 crore contribution from its Hindi multiplex release, Jailer 2 built its historic domestic run despite major national chains like PVR INOX and Cinepolis opting out of screening the Hindi version due to disagreements over the strict four-week OTT window constraint.

According to Sacnilk, Jailer 2 also became the first Indian film in history to secure ₹75 crore gross individually across all four primary southern markets: Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh/Telangana, Karnataka, and Kerala.

Jailer 2 released in theatres worldwide on October 15 and struck a century in its first 4 days in theatres—crossing the coveted ₹100 crore milestone globally—across 3 days. According to global tracking metrics, the film secured the number two spot worldwide in its opening weekend, pulling in a fierce $31.2 million 3-day weekend that ballooned into a $44.5 million 4-day global opening across more than 20 markets.

Jailer 2 also marked the first time in 40 years where the superstar watched the film in a theatrical show along with his fans. Sun Pictures, the banner backing the film, took to X to share this announcement along with a video of the same, writing: "For the first time in 40 years, Superstar Rajinikanth joins fans to witness #Jailer2 on the big screen!"
