Dhanush has postponed the release of OM: Chapter One — Udhiram: The Blood Wood, originally slated for October 16 and the Diwali window, to avoid clashing with Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 and Suriya’s Scene. Announcing the move on X, he framed it as a gesture of respect and industry solidarity, promising a new date soon for the Rajkumar Periasamy-directed film.
Dhanush announced on September 23 that OM: Chapter One — Udhiram: The Blood Wood will not release on its previously planned date of October 16, and will also not release during the Diwali window.
The announcement was shared through a post on X, wherein Dhanush said they are delaying the release out of respect for Rajinikanth, whose Jailer 2 is scheduled for a October 15 release. The actor and director added that the film will not open in the Diwali window either, out of fairness toward Suriya, whose film Scene has already been announced for the Diwali date. The post concluded confirming that a new release date will be announced shortly.
In his statement, Dhanush wrote: "Our superstar, Rajinikanth sir, the man whom we have all admired and worshipped over the years has his film arriving on October 15, just a day before ours. Out of immense respect for him, we have decided to postpone the release of our film, OM, to a later date."
He added: "We will not be arriving for Diwali this year either, as Suriya sir's film has already been announced for the same date. In all fairness, they announced their date first, and we strongly believe that big films should have a mutual understanding and respect each other's decisions, keeping the larger welfare of the cinema and industry in mind."
OM is written and directed by Rajkumar Periasamy, who previously directed Amaran (2024). This project is his first collaboration with Dhanush. The film’s cast includes Mammootty, Sai Pallavi, and Sreeleela.
Music for the film is by Sai Abhyankkar, who recently worked on RJ Balaji's Karuppu. The cinematography by Ezhil Arasu, editing by Kalaivanan R and costumes by Kavya Sriram. The film is produced by Wunderbar Films in association with RTake Studios.
