Ranveer Singh has begun shooting Pralay, a ₹300 crore post-apocalyptic zombie thriller set in a dystopian, outbreak-ravaged Mumbai, where a married couple fights to survive. Directed by Jai Mehta and co-written with Vishal Kapoor, the film marks Kalyani Priyadarshan’s Bollywood debut and is being shot across live locations in Mumbai and Australia with international technicians.

Ranveer Singh's post-apocalyptic zombie thriller Pralay has officially gone on floors in Mumbai. The film is set in a post-apocalyptic world and imagines a dystopian Mumbai infested by a zombie outbreak and a married couple scrambling to survive in it.

In January this year, the makers of the film also announced Kalyani Priyadarshan as the the film's female lead, marking her Bollywood debut.

Directed by filmmaker Jai Mehta, this ₹300 crore budget, scale-defining film is turning out to be the most expensive standalone project in Singh’s career.

In an exclusive interview with The Hollywood Reporter India in April this year, the film's producer Hansal Mehta clarified that Pralay is an original story, not an adaptation. He also said gave insights into the vision and scale of the project, saying that:

"It’s a post-apocalyptic world that hasn’t been attempted before at this scale in India. Development is not just about writing. It also includes ideas—how you shape them, how you visualise them, and how you eventually sell them to a third party, to a star or a studio. We’ve invested in building those ideas.”

A major chunk of the film is also set to be shot in Australia and will be supervised by experienced technicians who have worked in international projects. According to the makers, the film is currently being shot across at live locations across Mumbai.

Written by Mehta and Vishal Kapoor, Pralay is being co-produced by Singh’s company, Ma Kasam Films, along with Hansal Mehta, Sameer Nair and Sahil Saigal.
