Hansal Mehta's 'Scam 2010' teaser unveils Siddharth Bodke as the lead in Sony LIV's next chapter of the acclaimed franchise. Based on Tamal Bandyopadhyay's book, the series explores Subrata Roy's rise and fall, premiering January 2027.
Filmmaker Hansal Mehta will begin the year with a bang. Sony LIV on Monday unveiled the first look of Scam 2010. Directed by Hansal Mehta and backed by Birla Studios and Applause Entertainment, the next chapter of the acclaimed Scam franchise is headlined by Siddharth Bodke.
The series will premiere in January 2027. Scam 2010 is based on the book 'Sahara: the Untold Story' by Tamal Bandyopadhyay, and will explore the life of businessman Subrata Roy of the Sahara India Pariwar.
"Playing the lead character in Scam 2010 has honestly been one of the most challenging and special experiences of my career," Bodke said in a statement.
"What interested me the most was understanding the man behind the image. We all know the larger-than-life personality, but I wanted to explore who he really was, what drove him, and why he made the choices he did. I’ve lived with this character for a long time, and the process has taught me so much, not just as an actor but also as a person," he added.
Calling working with Mehta "an incredible learning experience and a lot of fun," Bodke added, "The Scam series already has such a strong legacy, and being trusted to take that forward is a huge responsibility. I’m genuinely excited for people to finally see what we’ve created."
Previously, Mehta had called Scam 2010 a story about "ambition, influence and the arrogance that follows both."
"It looks at how one of India’s largest business empires was built on belief — and what happened when that belief ran out. It tells the fascinating story of the rise of an empire and the man who mistook it for invincibility."
While Deepak Segal, Chief Content Officer, Applause Entertainment, had called it a title "much more than a franchise" for the team.
"The success of Scam comes with a lot of responsibility, as we are extremely conscious of the expectations that people have from us. Scam 1992 arrived at a time when the Indian streaming ecosystem was still finding its voice and went on to become one of the most loved and culturally resonant series to emerge from India," he said.
