Yash’s Kannada action drama Toxic continues its strong box office run, crossing ₹215 crore in India since its August 26 release, even as Day 5 collections dip slightly to ₹23 crore from ₹25.15 crore. The film opened with over ₹100 crore globally and has drawn praise from peers for its bold, unconventional storytelling despite mixed reviews.
Yash's return to the big screen post KGF, Kannada action drama Toxic, has officially crossed ₹215 crore in Indian net collections since its release on August 26. Day 5 collections have dipped slightly, from ₹25.15 crore on Day 4 to ₹23.00 crore.
On the opening day, the Hindi version alone clocked in an estimated ₹55 crore, recording the highest opening day ever for an original South film in the Hindi market. And the Kannada version clocked ₹23.30 crore on Day 1, followed by the Telugu version.
With a global opening of over ₹100 crore, Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups emerged as the second Kannada film in history to cross the milestone after K.G.F: Chapter 2, which was also headlined by Yash.
Toxic: A Fairy-Tale for Grown-Ups also stars Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Rukmini Vasanth, Huma Qureshi, and Tara Sutaria. Produced by KVN Productions and Monster Mind Creations, Toxic: A Fairy-Tale for Grown-Ups is written by Yash and Geetu Mohandas.
Meanwhile, several stars from the Kannada film industry have supported Yash's bold experimentation with Toxic, despite its generally mixed reviews and word of mouth. Kantara star Rishab Shetty congratulated Yash for taking Kannada cinema to the global stage.
"As an artist, when you play a character, you try to bring it to life from the bottom of your heart. And here, I am truly impressed by the conviction with which the struggle of a powerful man has been portrayed. Maybe the plot and driving characters are not on the usual track on which most films travel, but that doesn’t mean the track is wrong. The effort that goes into telling a story, and the journey it takes from being a thought in the mind to becoming a film on screen, is humongous," he said, adding that he stood with the actor making the daring experiment
Kannada star Kichcha Sudeep also chimed in. "Just want to say this, @TheNameIsYash — you’ve genuinely tried something out of the box rather than taking the predictable route of making another regular, expected, formulaic follow-up to your previous commercial blockbuster. It takes a different mindset, conviction, and most importantly, the guts to attempt something like this. #Toxic is an unusual and commendable attempt. There are several portions that are genuinely intriguing and open to great debate, discussion, and learning," he wrote.
