This week's theatrical and streaming release slate spans five languages, a variety of genres, and even marks the homecoming of two films that made a significant mark in international film festival circuits.
In theatres, releases include Venkatesh's Telugu family drama, Aaron Sorkin's Facebook-whistleblower film The Social Reckoning, and Bhargav Saikia's festival-circuit horror film Bokshi, among others.
On streaming, Netflix brings Parineeti Chopra back to the OTT space with Reporting Live, and debuts an English political thriller directed by and starring Ben Affleck, and SonyLIV announces a new Malayalam crime thriller. Here's what's releasing this week:
Telugu
Aadarsha Kutumbam House No: 47 stars Venkatesh and Srinidhi Shetty as husband and wife Chittibabu and Swarna, in a middle-class family drama packed with a combination of comedic domestic exchanges and grim action sequences. The film reunites actor Venkatesh and writer-director Trivikram Srinivas and is produced by S. Radha Krishna under the Haarika & Hassine Creations banner.
This action-packed family drama releases in theatres on October 9.
Hindi
Reporting Live is a thriller series and Parineeti Chopra’s second OTT feature following her streaming debut, Shaque: Trust No One. In the series, Chopra plays a young reporter who sets out with her reluctant photographer to chase a story and find themselves entangled in a sand-mining racket run by a syndicate.
Directed by Dhruv Tripathi, the series also stars Deven Bhojani and Saswata Chatterjee. Reporting Live will premiere on Netflix on October 8.
Following a packed festival run, Bhargav Saikia's directorial debut feature Bokshi makes its way to theatres this week. Shot in Hindi, Nepali and English, and also featuring the fictional language of 'Boksirit', this multilingual folk horror film follows a troubled teenager, Anahita, whose school trek to a remote prehistoric site unravels unsettling connections to an ancient legend.
Bokshi, which had its world premiere at the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) in 2025, has been showcased at festivals across Spain, Switzerland and Australia, and now is set to release in theatres on October 9.
Malayalam
This drama follows Seeta, a woman researching Baul music and life, who soon falls in love with Sam, a freelance photographer. The two travel to a tribal area in Kerala to study parallels between Baul and tribal life, where Sam soon goes missing on a work trip. The story tackles the years that follow, where Seeta takes on a local job, and years later comes to a realisation of self-discovery.
Starring Aiswarya Midhun Koroth and Anoop Menon in the lead roles, this film releases in theatres on October 9.
EYES marks director Manu Ashokan’s web series debut. Described by the makers as being mounted on the themes of obsession and vulnerability, the series centers on Tina, who begins to investigate the strange cases of the stalking of women. As the cases develop, the story also introduces psychologists who are appointed by the police to dissect the psychology of the stalker. The tagline of the series, “Watch, Protect, Defend” also hints at the nature of its themes.
The series features Kani Kusruti, Shruti Ramachandran, Nikhila Vimal, Saniya Iyappan and Dev Mohan in leading roles. The ensemble cast also includes Jaffer Idukki, Parvathy R. Krishna, Athira Patel and Bhagath Manuel among others.
EYES is set to release on SonyLIV on October 9.

The sequel to the hit 2010 film The Social Network, The Social Reckoning is a dramatic retelling of the 2021 Facebook lead by whistleblower Frances Haugen and Wall Street Journal reporter Jeff Horwitz. Written and directed by Aaron Sorkin, this drama is based on the account of Haugen, a Facebook engineer who worked with Horwitz to disclose internal company documents. Mikey Madison plays Haugen, with Jeremy Allen White as Horwitz and Jeremy Strong as Mark Zuckerberg, the billionaire CEO of Facebook. The cast further includes Wunmi Mosaku, Betty Gilpin, Billy Magnussen and Bill Burr.
The Social Reckoning releases in theatres on October 9.
Directed by and starring Ben Affleck, the political thriller follows Los Angeles mayoral candidate Mark Kimball (Affleck) and his wife Abigail (Kerry Washington) whose worlds unravel when their son Denny Kimball (Chistopher Woodly) is kidnapped. As they try everything in their power to raise the ransom, they find themselves in a game of deception that forces them to make life-altering choices. The ensemble cast also includes Gillian Anderson and Steven Yuen.
Animals will release on Netflix on October 9.
Tamil
Set against the backdrop of the 2008 Sri Lankan civil war, Thaainilam is an emotionally driven Sri Lankan Tamil drama following a father and his daughter as they flee their homeland during the civil war and seek refuge in Tamil Nadu. The story centres on their efforts to rebuild their lives while grieving leaving their homeland.
Before its theatrical release, Thaainilam made a significant mark with its international festival run. The film was premiered at the Toronto Tamil Film Festival in Canada, along with the Luleå International Film Festival in Sweden and Catharsis International Film Festival in Belgium, also receiving numerous accolades including Best Indian Film, Best Original Score, Best Debut Filmmaker, Best Narrative Feature Film – Special Mention, Best Cameraman and Best Debut Director
Directed and written by debutant Abhilash G. Devan, the film stars Amar Ramachandran and Neha Amar in the lead roles. Music and background score for the film are composed by veteran Malayalam composer Ouseppachan. This emotional family film comes to theatres on October 9.
