Actor-filmmaker Farhan Akhtar has finally given an update on the much awaited multi-starrer, Jee Le Zaraa. The film was announced in 2021 and, much like his directorial debut Dil Chahta Hai, is said to be centred around the dynamics of three friends who set out on a road trip. It has been indefinitely delayed due to date issues of the leading stars, but has been confirmed to be a project Akhtar plans to work on.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter India, Akhtar addressed rumours surrounding the film, which was announced to star Alia Bhatt, Priyanka Chopra, and Katrina Kaif. “There are too many rumours doing the rounds about too many things," he said, when asked about the speculation of a new cast.

Although there is immense uncertainty regarding the project, Akhtar called it one of the “incredible stories” which he wants to tell the world, along with the much-anticipated Don 3. His last directorial was Don 2 in 2011.

“I honestly don’t like keeping any secrets when I am making a film. Every time I have felt something is ready to go, I have put it out in the world," he said.

The filmmaker remarked how a lot has transpired over the last few years and he is currently in a phase where he needs to “catch his breath” and see where his heart lies in terms of creativity. “Right now, I am in a place where I really need to think about what I want to do next as a director,” he said.

Akhtar also spoke about the challenges of filmmaking, admitting that unexpected hurdles can often derail even well-planned projects. Reflecting on his recent experiences, he said the long-drawn journey has reinforced the importance of patience. “Nothing can be taken for granted till you actually have it on film,” he noted, adding that challenges are an innate part of any process.

The actor-filmmaker will next be seen as Pandit Ravi Shankar in a project directed by Sam Mendes, set to release in April, 2028.
