In a music landscape where love and heartbreak often fuel creativity, Sai Abhyankkar, the 21-year-old up-and-coming artist, takes a different route; he says he has no time for it.
Abhyankkar, who remarkably rose to fame in the Tamil indie space with his song Katchi Sera, while in conversation with The Hollywood Reporter India, mentioned how his interest lies in creating music that tap into the emotions of a listener and resonate with their feelings. He further revealed how this inclination is a major reason that his body of work focuses on love songs. However, the young artist himself has no time or space for a relationship.
For Sai, being in love requires time and emotional investment: two things he currently prioritises for his creativity. He says, “It’s too time-consuming and needs too much effort. Being in love is a process of spending time, and, I can’t do it right now — I don’t have the time for it.” For now, he says, he’d rather focus on making music and “spreading love” through his work.
Abhyankkar commented on how it is important to experience an emotion to write a song about it, and in order to deliver a song which can resonate with his listeners, he imagines himself in the situation. He said "I just assume that same emotion" — whether it be a heartbreak, or the feeling of being madly in love.
While referring to devoting his time entirely to his work, he also mentioned how he doesn’t usually follow a schedule for his work, rather works whenever possible. He has successfully integrated the process of creating music into his daily life. Anytime that he sits idle, he ends up thinking about the music he has to create; occasionally, he sets tight deadlines to ensure his deliverables reach the audience on time.
He has been composing songs ever since he was a teenager, and has over two thousand songs under his name, half of which are said to be his ‘bank’ — a reserve he hopes to draw from later in life, when he plans to explore the world of orchestral music.
