The Hollywood Reporter India's weekly column 'Lights, Camera, Scoop' will unravel the behind-the-scenes madness of the big Bollywood machinery.
If you are wondering where filmmaker Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari has been all this while, we have got the answer: she is developing multiple scripts across languages, genres, and platforms. The acclaimed helmer, whose last directorial was the 2022 Sony LIV series Faadu, starring Saiyami Kher and Pavail Gulati, is now readying a new slate of diverse stories.
THR India has learnt that Ashwiny, who had consciously taken a "step back" in the last two years owing to personal reasons, is now back on set with her new project, reported to be a Prime Video feature. She is also simultaneously working on other ideas.
Among them is an exciting musical romantic comedy, which she is on board to make with Tips. Ashwiny has developed a web series for a platform too, which will roll only much later.
The filmmaker is also keen to make a Tamil original, which she has already begun writing. If this works out, it will be her second Tamil outing after Amma Kanakku (2016), the Dhanush-backed remake of her stellar debut Nil Battey Sannata (2015).
Ashwiny will also most likely try and write a Marathi film as well as look into adapting her debut novel, Mapping Love, for the screen. Amidst all this, the director has also finished writing the script for an action drama, which she has now put on hold, but will come back to when the time is right.
While there are no timelines as to which one will go on floors and when, once Ashwiny wraps up her latest feature, starring Sonakshi Sinha and Jyotika, she will take a call on the world she wants to dive into next.
The filmmaker is known for the acclaimed hit Bareilly Ki Barfi, which featured Ayushmann Khurrana, Kriti Sanon and Rajkummar Rao and her glorious 2021 sports drama Panga, which was led by Kangana Ranaut.
