'AA 23': Allu Arjun's Next Will Be Directed By Lokesh Kanagaraj

Allu Arjun's next film will have an exciting Tamil connection. In a fabulous collision of worlds, Tamil filmmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj will direct the Telugu star's next film. The announcement was made on January 14, marking the occasion of Pongal. "SAY 23 Goin on a spree  Low-Key G Locked in mentally That’s a guarantee ! Excited about the new journey with the Maverick @Dir_Lokesh  garu," wrote Allu Arjun on X, along with a small announcement video.

The video, which features a brief animated sequence of lions and wolves, lets us know of the key crew behind the film. The upcoming movie will start shoot this year, and will have music by Lokesh Kanagaraj's frequent collaborator Anirudh Ravichander. The film will be produced by Naveen Yerneni and V Ravi Shankar of Mythri Movie Makers.

Allu Arjun's next film will be with Tamil filmmaker Atlee. Touted to be a sci-fi actioner, the film also co-stars Deepika Padukone. This will be the first time Atlee is teaming up with Allu Arjun, who tasted pan-India success with his 2024 historic blockbuster Pusha 2: The Rule. Directed by Sukumar, the film released last December and grossed over ₹1,830 crore globally. Atlee last directed superstar Shah Rukh Khan-led Jawan, the 2023 action blockbuster that marked the filmmaker's Hindi debut.

Lokesh Kanagaraj last directed Rajinikanth in Coolie. While the film opened to mixed reviews, it fared well at the box office. The filmmaker will be making his acting debut with Arun Matheswaran's DC, opposite Wamiqa Gabbi. The creator of the Lokesh Cinematic Universe, or LCU, has always spoken about his love for DC movies over the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Arun Matheswaran had last directed Captain Miller (2024), starring Dhanush. Wamiqa Gabbi is the female lead in DC, and the film is being produced by Sun Pictures. The DC in the title stands for Devadas and Chandra.
