A release date recalibration is on the cards for actor Adivi Sesh’s much-awaited pan-India action drama Dacoit. THR India has learnt that the film is now eyeing an April release, moving away from its previously announced March 19 window. The date had also been earmarked for Ranveer Singh–led Dhurandhar: The Revenge and Yash’s Toxic, both slated to arrive during the Eid–Gudi Padwa holidays.

Also starring Mrunal Thakur and Anurag Kashyap, Dacoit is billed as a gripping story of two former lovers who reunite to pull off a series of robberies in a bid to change their lives. Shot simultaneously in Telugu and Hindi, the Annapurna Studios film is being positioned for a wide, global release.

Sources say the move is a scheduling call aimed at securing a clearer theatrical window for the film as the makers are confident how the movie has shaped up.

“With production wrapping on Tuesday and the final cut shaping up strongly, the team is keen to position the film on a date that allows it maximum visibility and breathing room,” a trade source tells THR India, adding that a new release date is expected to be locked soon.

The action drama is directed by Shaneil Deo and produced by Supriya Yarlagadda, with Suniel Narang serving as co-producer. Dacoit also sees Sesh sharing screenplay and dialogue credits with Deo.

With principal photography now complete, post-production work is underway as the makers prepare the film for what is likely to be an April outing.

The first-look teaser of the film, unveiled last year, offered an early glimpse into its gritty world. “Hey, Juliet. What happened to you isn’t a trivial thing. Everybody betrayed you. But I am not here to betray you. No. I am here to destroy you,” says Sesh’s character in the teaser, which culminates in a striking shot of him and Thakur wearing black masks.

Dacoit will be Sesh's first full-length after titles like Major and HIT: The Second Case.
