'Akka': Keerthy Suresh and Radhika Apte's Netflix Gangster Series Gets October Premiere Date

Yash Raj Entertainment's period revenge thriller, its most ambitious streaming project yet, lands on the platform almost three years after cameras first rolled.

Akka, the Yash Raj Entertainment period crime series starring Keerthy Suresh and Radhika Apte, will premiere on Netflix on Oct. 30, according a report in Bollywood Hungama.

After starting production in November 2023, the series' release was long awaited. It should be noted that Akka is the biggest tentpole for the streaming division of Aditya Chopra's production house, Yash Raj Films.

The setting of the series is '80s, where the protagonist finds herself living within a fictional South Indian city, governed by the rule of women. The duo of gangster queens reign over the fictional city till a mysterious threat emerges, threatening both their reign and lives.

The series marks the streaming debut of Keerthy Suresh, one of South Indian cinema's foremost names. She is set against Radhika Apte, a familiar face on the platform after several acclaimed streaming projects. Tanvi Azmi also features in a key role. Akka is directed by first-time filmmaker Dharmaraj Shetty.

Akka is the third series from Yash Raj Entertainment and Netflix India. The pair previously collaborated on The Railway Men, starring R. Madhavan, Kay Kay Menon, Divyenndu and Babil Khan, and Mandala Murders, an investigative drama with Vaani Kapoor, Vaibhav Raj Gupta and Surveen Chawla.

The partnership will expand with Tunnel Men, a thriller series inspired by the 2023 Uttarakhand tunnel rescue operation. Ambiecka Pandit and Manan Rawat will direct, and the project is set to go on floors early next year.
