The filmmakers talk about how their long-standing friendship has always endured creative clashes and arguments
In a candid interview recently with The Hollywood Reporter India, filmmakers Anurag Kashyap and Vikramaditya Motwane went down memory lane, and looked back on their long-standing friendship.
Motwane admitted that during the course of their friendship, he had been angry with Kashyap at times, which the latter patiently absorbed all by himself… a fact that reminded Kashyap of one specific night, many years ago.

“He [Motwane] made me cry when Dev.D (2009) released!” recalled Kashyap, adding, “I wept like a child.”
During Dev. D’s premiere at Chandan cinema, the first review from a journalist came out — and it was a five star rating.
Kashyap revealed that he and Motwane had disagreed on a lot in the film. “He’s the one who had [worked on] the first draft and I changed it around... but he hated the ending.”
Motwane laughed as he clarified, “I loved the script, but yes, I didn't like what you did with the film.”
Kashyap continued, “When the film got a five star rating, excitedly, the first person I called was Vikram… and he said, ‘Shove those five stars up your a**, the film could have been better.’”
Kashyap bashfully admitted to crying and howling right there at his premiere, causing everyone to check up on him. Motwane continued laughing at the memory as he hugged Kashyap apologetically.

Signing off, Kashyap said that while they’re both very attached to their films and look at things differently, he actively seeks the advice of his friend. “Gangs of Wasseypur (2012)
wouldn’t have been the film it was had it not been for him.” That sums up their the essence of their friendship — candid, respectful and with a good dose of humour.
