AR Rahman's 'Secret Mountain' teaser follows a young girl who steps into the mystical metaverse world and meets musicians from various cultural backgrounds.
For composer AR Rahman, going global isn't enough. He is now stepping into a musical metaverse. The Academy Award-winning composer recently met OpenAI CEO Sam Altman to discuss his upcoming virtual global band project Secret Mountain.
In February last year, Rahman dropped a video on his YouTube channel, introducing the world of Secret Mountain. The over four-minute-long video started with a voiceover of a character called Luna, who says, "Like most of us, I have been wandering the jungle instead of gratification, dooms of scrolling, searching for something exciting, hoping to fill the void... Have you ever wondered what would happen if you could escape your reality?"
Now, Rahman said he had a fruitful meeting with Altman as the two brainstromed on the immersive AI project, as he dropped a selfie on his Instagram page. "It was a pleasure meet @sama at his office …we discussed “Secret Mountain”, our virtual global band, and to empower and uplift Indian minds to use AI tools to address generational challenges and lead the way forward," Rahman captioned the image.

An Indian Express report quoted Rahman wanting to constantly evolve and "avoid repetition" in his work. "AI can be a starting point, but the human element, the emotional depth and creativity, remains irreplaceable," Rahman had said about his meta band project.
On the work front, Rahman has currently collaborated with multiple Oscar-winning composer Hans Zimmer on the music Ramayana. The two-part epic, starring Ranbir Kapoor, Yash and Sai Pallavi, is directed by Nitesh Tiwari and is gearing up for a wide global release on Diwali, 2026. The makers of the film had dropped the first teaser last month to much acclaim, especially for Rahman and Zimmer's score.
