Director G Prajith, who made a superhit debut with Oru Vadakkan Selfie (2015), returns to the Malayalam industry with Ashakal Aayiram (a thousand dreams). On Monday, production house Sree Gokulam Movies released posters in English, Malayalam, and Tamil for the film. Both leads, Jayaram and Kalidas, are popular in the Tamil industry as well, apart from Malayalam.

The film is being written by Jude Anthany Joseph and Arvind Rajendran. The father-son duo is reuniting after 22 years on screen. Although the duo made appearances in Prime Video anthology Putham Pudhu Kaalai (2020), the last Malayalam film in which they acted together was Sibi Malayil’s superhit tragedy Ente Veedu Appuvinteyum (2003). The film also gave Kalidas the National Film Award that year for Best Child Artist. The duo had acted once before in Sathyan Anthikad’s family comedy Kochu Kochu Santhoshangal (2000).

Ashakal Aayiram will also be Jayaram’s first proper Malayalam release after Abraham Ozler (2024). Kalidas had last acted in Raayan (2024) in Tamil and Rajni (2023) in Malayalam.

As for the production house, Gokulam Movies had announced their entry into the Tamil industry late last month with SJ Suryah’s Killer, after last co-producing Mohanlal-Prithviraj's L2:Empuraan. The poster of Killer states that the film will have a pan-Indian release with Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Hindi, and Kannada versions. Other collaborators of the movie have not been announced, although SJ Suryah himself will play a leading character in the film. It was confirmed recently that the film’s music will be by AR Rahman.
