 approaches its scheduled theatrical release on February 27, the Kerala High Court has intervened in a growing legal dispute over its certification and portrayal of the State.

, on Tuesday (February 24, 2026), a division bench of the High Court, led by Justice Bechu Kurian Thomas, asked the film’s producers whether a screening could be arranged before the court ahead of its final consideration of multiple petitions challenging the film’s censor certificate. The court indicated it would view the film in order to verify claims made by the petitioners.

The petitioners have argued that the film’s title and promotional material suggest a portrayal of widespread regional discord and violence in Kerala — a contention they say isn’t reflected by the State’s lived experience. They also argue that the Central Board of Film Certification’s (CBFC) U/A certificate may have been granted without adequate assessment.

During the hearing, Justice Thomas expressed reservations about the narrative’s possible impact, emphasising the largely peaceful coexistence in Kerala “Kerala lives in total harmony. But you have portrayed that this is happening all over Kerala. There is a wrong indication and it can also incite passion. That is where the censor board comes into play. Have you considered that?” Thomas was quoted as saying. 

The judge noted that while courts typically do not interfere with the artistic freedom of filmmakers, the combination of the film’s claim to be “inspired by true events” and its title could, in his view, be inflammatory. In his remarks, he said, “…Normally, I do not interfere with any movie. Artistic freedom. But you are saying that it is inspired by true events and the name Kerala is given, which can create some communal tension. I will watch the movie tomorrow. You can arrange a screening of the movie tomorrow.”

The court asked the Centre to obtain instructions on whether a screening could be arranged and directed that this be communicated in the post-lunch session. Justice Thomas also stressed that presumptions arising from a CBFC certificate are not “absolute” and must be evaluated in light of a film’s actual content, particularly if it has the potential to stir public sentiment.

The controversy follows debates over the first installment of 

, which triggered nationwide discussion over representation and factual inaccuracies. Speaking to India Today, filmmaker Sudipto Sen, who helmed the first film, explained why he did not return for the sequel. "For the first film, I researched the subject for 10 years. I could stand by every word and visual in that film. If the sequel expands beyond Kerala into other states, I cannot rely on WhatsApp forwards or newspaper reports," Sen was quoted as saying by the publication.

From what it looks like, the comedy will touch upon these relatives trying to get a hold of all her money, even as she struggles to hold on to dear life. Radikaa Sarathkumar appears in a character we have never seen before in this film.

The plot of the film is said to be based on the life of Pavunuthayi, “a fiercely independent, intimidating elderly woman in a rural village, known for being tough, ruthless, and blunt, especially as a moneylender whose strict enforcement of dues makes her feared by locals.” It is produced by Sivakarthikeyan, and it is being directed by Sivakumar Murugesan. He has also written the film. Illavarasu and Aruldoss play her relatives in the film. Nivas K Prassana has scored the film’s music.

“By bringing together nominees, collaborators and industry leaders, we aimed to create a meaningful space that celebrates artistic excellence while strengthening the connections shaping the future of the screen industries,” they said.

The song itself, with its punch line shouting the phrase Aaya Sher, also resembles the visuals of a lion roaring as he enters his den. The full song will be tomorrow on Tuesday, February 24.

In her acceptance speech, Devi reflected on the journey behind the film, saying, “To walk up till here felt like the last few steps to reach a summit of a mountain we never knew we were climbing in the first place.” She used the platform to highlight the ongoing unrest in Manipur, adding, “I just want to use this opportunity to say that we pray for peace to return to Manipur. We pray that all the internally displaced children, including the child actors in the film, regain their joy, their innocence, and their dream once again.”

Calling the film “a homage to my homeland,” she noted that Manipur remains “very much ignored and very unrepresented in India.”

Telugu actors Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna have finally made their relationship official. Ahead of speculations of a February 26 wedding, the duo put up a synchronised story on Instagram, confirming their wedding.

"Before we made any plans, before we chose anything for ourselves, you were already there. With so much love, you gave us a name. You called us VIROSH. So today, with full hearts, we name our coming together in your honour. We would like to name it 'The wedding of VIROSH'. Thank you for holding us with so much love. You are a part of us always," the note read.

, have been reportedly dating for a while. In an earlier interview with 

to remain tight-lipped, especially on the subject everyone wanted her to address. When asked if she would confirm or deny her rumoured marriage to 

, she chose neither. “I wouldn’t like to do either; when it is to be spoken about, we shall,” she said with a smile.

Though she openly called herself a “workaholic,” Mandanna insisted she does not want to bring the industry into her living room. “At least 80 per cent of the time, I don’t discuss work at home,” she said. If something in the business bothers her, she will ask for “advice or help,” but otherwise she shuts the door on it. “Talking about work is still work.”

This boundary is intentional. “I’m someone who will give my 100 per cent. When I have a meeting, I will give my 100 per cent. But when I’m home, I’m home,” she explained. With family, she draws a hard line. “I take my personal life extremely seriously. At home, I won’t talk about work. We can start that conversation tomorrow at 9am.”

In what has now become a great deal for a non-Malayalam film in Kerala, Yash’s upcoming magnum opus 

 will be distributed by E4 Entertainment, a popular production firm behind hits like 

 and more. The amount remains undisclosed by the E4 team. It is headed by Mukesh Mehta and C.V. Sarathi.  The upcoming film is directed by Geethu Mohandas, who had last directed 

 with Nivin Pauly and Roshan Mathew in the lead. Rajeev Ravi, the cinematographer of 

, has directed five films in Malayalam too, starring Dulquer Salman, Fahadh Faasil, Asif Ali and Nivin Pauly. E4 Entertainment have also distributed blockbusters like 

 is expected to release across 350 screens in the state. Yash’s 

 currently holds the record for the highest share by a non-Malayalam film in Kerala. 

 is said to have grossed nearly ₹70 crore from the Kerala state alone, eclipsing the record of

In the North, Anil Thadani’s AA Films has reunited with Yash, while in the Telugu states, Sri Venkateswara Creations (SVC), led by Dil Raju, will steer the film. On Sunday, we reported that the film had sealed another major deal. Zee Music Company has boarded the film in a landmark music rights acquisition, among the label’s most significant in recent years. The film’s music will feature a high-impact, multi-composer soundtrack with composers such as Ravi Basrur, Vishal Mishra, and Tanishk Bagchi bringing together diverse musical styles.  While Mishra has composed four songs, Bagchi contributes one track co-composed with Arslan Nizami and Faheem Abdullah (of Saiyaara fame), and Basrur delivers one song along with the film’s background score.

Produced by KVN Productions and Monster Mind Creations, the film is written by Yash and Geetu Mohandas, who has also directed it. According to the makers, the album will aim to blend "emotion, mass energy, and cinematic scale". The film has signed record-breaking deal for its Telugu dub too. Headed by veteran producer Dil Raju, SVC acquired the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana distribution rights for ₹120 crore on an advance commission basis, making it the biggest-ever acquisition for a non-Telugu origin film in the region. The film also secured a ₹105 crore overseas advance for its Indian-language editions, marking one of the biggest pre-release international deals for an Indian film.

Also starring Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Huma Qureshi, Rukmini Vasanth, and Tara Sutaria, 

has been shot in Kannada and English, with dubbed versions across Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and other languages. The film is scheduled to hit theatres on March 19, when it will clash with Ranveer Singh-led
