'Border 2’: Sunny Deol Takes Charge in Fiery Poster, New Release Date Locked
'Border 2' is directed by Anurag Singh and also stars Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh and Ahan Shetty
On Independence Day, the makers of Border 2 have released the fiery first-look poster of the film, heralding the return of Sunny Deol in the Indian Army uniform. A sequel to the beloved 1997 classic, Border 2 is slated to hits screens on January 22, 2026, ahead of the extended Republic Day weekend.
In the poster, an intense Deol is seen firing a rocket launcher, taking charge on the battlefield as he did also three decades ago. Border 2 is directed by Anurag Singh (Kesari) and also stars Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, Sonam Bajwa, Mona Singh and Ahan Shetty. Ahan’s father, Suniel Shetty, was part of the original ensemble cast of Border, which was directed by JP Dutta.
Based on the 1971 Indo-Pakistan War, particularly the storied Battle of Longewala in the Thar desert, Border was the biggest domestic blockbuster of its year. Featuring iconic performances, intense battle scenes (including tank and aerial sequences), and memorable songs, the film was honoured with three National Awards including Best Lyrics and Best Feature Film on National Integration. The heart-tugging patriotic drama became a fixture on Indian television, re-played each year on Independence and Republic Day holidays.
Dutta, a veteran of war epics, is producing Border 2 with his daughter Nidhi Dutta alongside Bhushan Kumar and Krishan Kumar of T-Series. Original composer Anu Malik is returning to compose the songs of Border 2.
“With Border 2, we aim to carry forward that legacy and bring it to a new generation. The new release date gives audiences more time to come together and experience the film in theatres during an extended Republic Day weekend,” Bhushan Kumar was quoted as saying inDeadline.
Sunny Deol has been on a streak of high-powered sequels. His 2023 release, Gadar 2, a sequel to his 2001 cult classic Gadar - Ek Prem Katha, was a huge smash at the box-office, collecting close to ₹700 crore worldwide. Deol is also poised to star in Jaat 2, a sequel to his 2025 action film Jaat.
