The opening day prediction of Kamal Haasan-Mani Ratnam's 'Thug Life' and the Hindi comedy 'Housefull 5'
Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam's latest gangster drama, Thug Life, released on Thursday and is looking to record a healthy day one, which would benefit if the film receives favourable word of mouth. The movie, which reunites Haasan with Ratnam over 38 years after their iconic Mumbai gangster drama Nayakan (1987), will aim to hold strongly in Tamil Nadu for a big opening day figure.
According to Pinkvilla, the film is looking to gross ₹15 to 16 crore in Tamil Nadu, a decent number, but lesser than Haasan's 2022 actioner Vikram, which had grossed nearly ₹25 crore in the state.
With Tamil Nadu contributing the most in collections, the day-one nationwide opening of Thug Life could be in the range of ₹18 to 20 crore gross. Thug Life co-stars Silambarasan TR, Trisha, Nasser, Ashok Selvan, Joju George, and Aishwarya Lekshmi, among others.
In Hindi, the big film of the week is Housefull 5. Backed by Sajid Nadiadwala, the film is gearing up for a wide release on June 6. Several box-office trackers have reported that the comedy has not shown enough momentum in ticket sales, making it rely more on spot bookings for better collections.
As of now, the industry is expecting the film to open anywhere between ₹20 to 25 crore mark, depending on how the audience reception kicks in. Directed by Tarun Mansukhani, Housefull 5 is headlined by franchise regulars Akshay Kumar and Riteish Deshmukh, alongside Abhishek Bachchan, who returns after Housefull 3.
They are joined by a sprawling lineup that includes Jacqueline Fernandez, Sonam Bajwa, Nargis Fakhri, Sanjay Dutt, Jackie Shroff, Nana Patekar, Chitrangada Singh, Fardeen Khan, Chunky Pandey, Johnny Lever, Shreyas Talpade, Dino Morea, Ranjeet, Soundarya Sharma, Nikitin Dheer, and Akashdeep Sabir.
