'Coolie' Exclusive | Shruti Haasan on Speaking 'Honestly' About Relationships, Plastic Surgery: 'Fingers Will Always Be Pointed At You'

Actor Shruti Haasan has always been candid and unfiltered about her life choices. From her mental health struggles to her relationships, the actor-singer has never shied away from speaking her mind in the public sphere, drawing both love and scorn on social media. She’s also among the few Indian celebrities to speak freely about undergoing cosmetic procedures, including a rhinoplasty and a face lift.

In an exclusive conversation with The Hollywood Reporter India, Haasan admitted she’s had to pay a price for her ‘honesty’, but it was worth it.

“When I spoke up, I got comments like, ‘oh, yeh to plastic surgery ki dukaan hai’. But I know what and how much I have done, and how much more others have. That’s the price you pay for honesty. It’s okay. And I never promote it. This is my choice.”

Haasan asserted that she navigates life according to her own rules, undeterred by external judgement. “In love, in life, in work, fingers will always be pointed at you for blowing the whistle or speaking the truth or calling something out for what it is. But what a good price to pay.”

Haasan has a pivotal role in Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Coolie, headlined by Rajinikanth. The film, currently running in theatres, has emerged as a box-office winner, earning close to ₹200 crore in its first weekend globally.

A sprawling action drama, Coolie stars Rajinikanth as Deva, a former smuggler investigating the death of an old friend, eventually clashing with a ruthless crime boss (Nagarjuna). In the film, Haasan essays the role of the deceased friend's daughter, Preethi. This is the first time the actor-singer shared screen space with Rajinikanth.

Following Coolie, Shruti Haasan will be seen in a Hollywood thriller titled The Eye, co-starring Mark Rowley. She also has a Telugu film alongside Dulquer Salmaan in the offing.
