Rajinikanth-led 'Coolie' is off to a thunderous start on the advance booking front, with a huge lead over 'War 2'.
With just two days to go, the mighty box-office clash between Coolie and War 2 is getting clearer with the former taking a considerable lead as far as the opening day worldwide figures are concerned. Rajinikanth-led Coolie is off to a thunderous start on the advance booking front, with a lead of a whopping ₹70 crore over War 2.
Taking into account the global advance booking figures for the Lokesh Kanagaraj directorial, Coolie has crossed ₹85 crore already and will soon hit the ₹100 crore mark, a Bollywood Hungama report mentioned.
This is a humongous feat for the Tamil film as it will be breaching the milestone well before the opening day on Thursday. The buzz around Hrithik Roshan-Jr NTR's War 2, on the other hand, hasn't been extraordinary, with only ₹15 crore coming in so far at the worldwide box-office.
In terms of advance bookings as of Tuesday, Yash Raj Films' Spy Universe film is trailing Coolie by a margin of nearly ₹70 crore. This has effectively put War 2 on the back foot as far as global opening day figures are concerned, as the Ayan Mukerji film likely won't be able to catch up.
The advance booking for War 2 in India has also been strictly decent, with projections coming down heavily over the weeks. The film would hope to benefit hugely from Telugu and Hindi collections to boost its India net for day one, which, as of now, doesn't look like it's going to break any box-office records.
Coolie, meanwhile, is set to create new benchmarks in Tamil Nadu and Kerala, with both the territories firing big as soon as the tickets went live. The film will register its best collections in the two states, followed by Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, where War 2 might have an edge due to Jr NTR.
The battle will eventually be on how the two films are received by the audience, with positive word of mouth pushing the collections over the four-day-long Independence Day extended weekend.
