A magistrate Mumbai court on Monday reissued a bailable warrant against actor Malaika Arora, who was a witness in the 2012 hotel brawl case involving actor Saif Ali Khan and two others.
According to PTI, Arora failed to appear as a witness in the case against Khan, who was accused of assaulting an NRI businessman at a five-star hotel. The court had first issued a bailable warrant against Arora two months ago.
On February 22, 2012, Arora, Khan, his actor wife Kareena Kapoor, Karisma Kapoor and Amrita Arora, among others, were having dinner at the hotel when the alleged incident took place.
According to police, businessman Iqbal Mir Sharma protested against the group's loud conversations. The situation escalated when Khan allegedly confronted Sharma and subsequently punched him in the nose, fracturing it. Sharma lodged a complaint against Khan and his two friends – Shakeel Ladak and Bilal Amrohi, who were arrested and later released on bail.
In his statement, Khan alleged that the NRI businessman initiated a verbal attack, making inflammatory remarks and using derogatory language against the women in his group.
Chief Judicial Magistrate (Esplanade court) K.S. Zanwar is currently recording the testimony of witnesses in the case. The next hearing of the matter will be on April 29.
