The upcoming collaboration of Dhruva Sarja and Rachita Ram was announced on November 19. Titled Criminal, the Kannada action film, based on a true love story, began its journey this week. "Delighted to share my new project #Criminal with my dear friend @DhruvaSarja after 8 fantastic years!" Rachita wrote on X, along with pictures from the pooja ceremony. The duo was last seen in Bharjari in 2017.

"It’s a wonderful collaboration with @GTelefilms for a fantastic script and I’m super excited to collaborate with the skilled team #Rajguru DOP Vaidi sir #thara @chandanspshetty n Team. Need all your blessing love and support as always!" she wrote. The film will be produced by Manish Shah and directed by B Rajguru. Rachita Ram, a popular Kannada actress, was last seen in Lokesh Kanagaraj's Coolie alongside Soubin Shahir.

Sarja was last seen in 2024's Martin. According to a report in the Hindustan Times, the Bombay High Court had recently ordered Sarja to deposit ₹3 crore before considering his plea to quash an FIR, allegedly for cheating producer Raghvendra Hegde. Including interests and delays, this amount had increased to ₹9 crore. Dhruv is said to have accepted an advance payment of ₹3 crore for a film titled The Soldier, but this film never materialised.

In early August, a complaint had been filed in Mumbai’s Amboli Police Station against Dhruva Sarja. The complaint stated that the star had taken an advance of ₹3 crore from him as an advance payment for a film that never materialised. Hegde’s 2016 film Jaggu Dada was a hit, and Hegde was supposed to make a movie with him right after. However, Live Law, in what was a temporary respite, reported that the Bombay High Court ordered the Mumbai Police not to file a chargesheet in a criminal case lodged against the actor. Sarja will next be seen in KD: The Devil.
