'DC': Lokesh Kanagaraj and Wamiqa Gabbi's Tamil Film Locks July Release Date

Sun Pictures took to X on July 1 to announce the release date for DC, the Tamil action film directed by Arun Matheswaran and starring Lokesh Kanagaraj and Wamiqa Gabbi. The post revealed that the film will be released worldwide on July 31.

The production house wrote, “Devadas and Chandra are ready to light up the big screen! #DC Releasing worldwide from July 31"

DC marks Lokesh Kanagaraj's acting debut. Kanagaraj, who has directed films including Master, Vikram and Coolie, plays Devadas opposite Wamiqa Gabbi's Chandra. Sanjana Krishnamoorthy plays a third key character named Parvati. The film is written and directed by Arun Matheswaran, whose previous credits include Captain Miller (2024) and Rocky (2021). With writing by Arun Ranjan, Matheswaran and Franklin Jacob, the film's music is composed by Anirudh Ravichander.

The trailer for DC was premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2026, where Kanagaraj was present. Speaking at the event, he shared that the entire experience felt new to him — from acting to being at the prestigious film festival. “Everything feels new. I can’t say whether it’s good or bad, but it’s been a nice experience. Being on a different set before moving on to my next film gave me a chance to learn something new. I got to observe how Arun and the others worked, and it was a learning experience,” he said.

On the directorial front, Kanagaraj most recently directed Rajinikanth in Coolie (2025). In upcoming ventures, he is set to direct Telugu star Allu Arjun in his upcoming film AA23.

Meanwhile, after months of speculation and delays, Lokesh also addressed the status of Kaithi 2, the sequel to his 2019 hit starring Karthi. The filmmaker was initially expected to begin work on the sequel immediately after Coolie. However, Lokesh clarified that Kaithi 2 had been pushed further down the line and revealed that work on the project would begin only after he completes AA23 with Allu Arjun.
