Dhanush's upcoming film, directed by Tamil director Vignesh Raja, got a title and first-look announcement. Marking the occasion of Pongal, the film's makers announced that the film will be titled Kara. "Sometimes staying dangerous is the only way to stay alive," the poster reads, which sees the actor amidst a field that catches fire.

The upcoming film is headed for a Summer 2026 release. The film will be written by Vignesh Raja and Alfred Prakash. Theni Eswar, Sreejith Sarang and Mayapandi will make up the remaining technical crew. Vignesh grew to fame for directing the investigative thriller Por Thozhil, co-starring Ashok Selvan and Sarathkumar in 2023. The upcoming film will have music by GV Prakash Kumar.

The film also marks Vels Films International's first association with actor Dhanush, who was last seen in his directorial Idli Kadai in Tamil and Aanand L Rai’s Hindi film Tere Ishk MainWritten by Himanshu Sharma and Neeraj Yadav, Tere Ishk Mein also stars Prakash Raj, Ravi Kishan and Priyanshu Painyulli. With music by AR Rahman and lyrics by Irshad Kamil, the film is produced by T-Series and Colour Yellow Productions. Headlined by Dhanush and Kriti Sanon, the film may have opened to negative reviews, but that had little impact on the ground as the film has been steadily netting collections.

Tere Ishk Mein is the first ₹100 crore Bollywood grosser for Dhanush, who has appeared in Hindi titles like Raanjhanaa, Shamitabh—co-starring Amitabh Bachchan—and Atrangi Re, which was a direct-to-streaming release during the pandemic.

Mamitha Baiju, on the other hand, was last seen in Pradeep Ranganathan's Dude, a Tamil comedy drama. Mamitha, who grew to fame for her role in Premalu (2024), will also be seen in Vijay's Jana Nayagan, which is headed for a January release next year. The film also co-stars Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, and Prakash Raj.
