Directed by Shekhar Kammula and co-starring Dhanush and Nagarjuna the upcoming film has received a U/A certificate and a 14-minute shortened runtime.
Dhanush’s much-anticipated film Kuberaa, directed by Sekhar Kammula and co-starring Nagarjuna, has officially cleared the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) with a U/A certificate. However, the certification came with 19 mandated cuts, trimming the film’s original runtime from 195 minutes to 181 minutes. The decision has generated curiosity among fans and cinephiles alike, who are speculating about the potential impact on the film’s narrative and flow.
The makers had initially submitted a longer version for certification but had suggested that a tighter final cut would eventually be released. The strategy appears to have worked in their favour, with the now-certified 181-minute version clearing potential last-minute regulatory hurdles. While the content of the trimmed scenes remains under wraps, the final cut promises a leaner, more gripping theatrical experience.
Anticipation for Kuberaa is running high. According to The Times of India, the film has already sold over 2,000 tickets in advance. With the combined star power of Dhanush and Nagarjuna, alongside Sekhar Kammula’s reputation for storytelling, Kuberaa is well poised for a powerful box office debut.
In promotional interviews, Dhanush shared his experience working on the project, offering a tongue-in-cheek take on the preparation process. “I heard I had to stand in the sun. I had to do a lot of research… All those are lies… I just had to follow my director. Sekhar sir was brilliant,” he said, underscoring the seamless collaboration behind the scenes. In Kuberaa, Dhanush plays Deva, a beggar who gets a new lease on life, while Nagarjuna plays Kumar, a seemingly wealthy government official. Kumar offers Deva some money and strength and their lives get upturned as a consequence. A battle for money and power begins.
The film, which also features Rashmika Mandanna, Sunainaa and Jim Sarbh in key roles, has music by Devi Sri Prasad, camerawork by Niketh Bommi, and production design by the legendary Thota Tharani. The Telugu film is headed for a June 20 release.
