Banger Incoming? Diljit Dosanjh Records Track for Rishab Shetty’s ‘Kantara: Chapter 1’
The biggest pan-Indian offering of the year, 'Kantara: Chapter 1' will hit theatres on October 2.
In an epic new development, Punjabi pop star Diljit Dosanjh has recorded a track for Rishab Shetty’s upcoming film Kantara: Chapter 1. According to reports, Shetty and composer B. Ajaneesh Loknath flew to Mumbai to collaborate with Dosanjh on the song. The recording was done at a major film studio in the city. With the release date for the much-awaited prequel set for October 2, the team is operating on a tight schedule.
A source told the entertainment portal Bollywood Hungama, “Diljit coming on board for Kantara: Chapter 1 is indeed one of the biggest Pan-India collaborations of the year. The idea behind the move is to increase the reach of the film even further in north India. The song is going to be keenly awaited one once the news comes out.”
Earlier, Hindi film actor Gulshan Devaiah had boarded the cast of Kantara: Chapter 1. The makers had released an intriguing poster introducing his character, Kulashekara, described as a probable king in the storyline.
Beyond its music, Kantara: Chapter 1 promises some of the most ambitious action set pieces in recent Indian cinema. A central war sequence was filmed over 45–50 days across rugged 25 acres of terrain and involved over 500 trained fighters and 3,000 background artistes. Industry insiders have described the sequence as one of the largest of its kind mounted for an Indian production.
Produced by Hombale Films, the pan-Indian actioner stars Rishab Shetty in the lead, along with Rukmini Vasanth and Sapthami Gowda. Kantara: Chapter 1 is a prequel to Shetty’s 2022 film Kantara, which was set in Dakshina Kannada and explored the clash between human greed and nature. The film starred Shetty, Sapthami Gowda, Kishore Kumar, and Achyuth Kumar. It became one of the most successful Kannada films of all time.
Actor Rukmini Vasanth, who stars alongside Shetty, recently praised the film’s scale and vision. “He has an incredibly grand vision,” she said of Shetty. “Even in the making-of video they released, you can see how much detail went into creating this world. It’s monumental, yet remains rooted in the culture that made the first film so impactful.”
The upcoming prequel will depict the reign of the Kadambas in Karnataka. Shetty is writing and directing the film, with Anirudh Mahesh and Shanil Guru credited as co-writers. Loknath, who scored the original film, returns as composer.
Backed by Hombale Films, Kantara: Chapter 1 is being positioned as a large-scale pan-Indian release, with Diljit’s participation expected to boost its visibility in northern territories.
The biggest pan-Indian offering of the year, Kantara: Chapter 1 will release on October 2 in Kannada, Tamil, Hindi, Malayalam, Telugu, Bengali, and English.
