According to sources, the sequel has gone on floors in Hyderabad, with Kapoor set to play the female lead opposite Sajja. The actor will join the film’s sets soon.

“Suparn Varma is set to direct Zombie Reddy 2 as his next project after Haq. The shoot has already gone on floors in Hyderabad, and Shanaya Kapoor is set to play the female lead and she is expected to join the team soon,” a source close to the development told THR India.

Kapoor’s recent projects included romantic drama Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyaan and emotionally-grounded croc-thriller Tu Yaa Main.

Sources reveal that Varma is aiming to bring a fresh perspective to the Zombie Reddy franchise, while retaining the blend of ‘horror, comedy and commercial entertainment that made the original film successful’.

Released in 2021, Zombie Reddy, directed by Prasanth Varma, became one of Telugu cinema’s earliest zombie-themed entertainers. Combining horror, comedy and action against the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic, the film had a good box-office run and later found a wider audience on streaming.

The sequel is backed by People Media Factory, which has previously collaborated with Sajja on Mirai. The production house is said to mount Zombie Reddy 2 on a large scale as the franchise expands.

Varma’s last directorial, Haq, was set in the 1970s and presented a fictionalised account of the landmark Shah Bano judgment by the Supreme Court of India.
