Ranveer Singh to Begin Jai Mehta's Zombie Film 'Pralay' From September

After the record-smashing espionage actioner Dhurandhar, what’s the next world Ranveer Singh is diving into? An apocalypse. The actor is set to begin shooting for filmmaker Jai Mehta’s upcoming zombie thriller Pralay, with the initial schedule reportedly kicking off in Australia this September.

Singh will lead the film alongside Kalyani Priyadarshan, who will be making her Hindi film debut with this project.

Pralay is set in a post-apocalyptic world. It imagines a dystopian Mumbai infested by a zombie outbreak and a married couple scrambling to survive in it. With a budget of ₹300 crore, the film is turning out to be the most expensive standalone project in Singh’s career.

A major part of the film is to be shot in Australia and will be supervised by experienced technicians who have worked in international projects, reported Pinkvilla. It will also heavily rely on VFX, with pre-production currently in full swing.

According to reports, Mehta will "reimagine Mumbai in The Hunger Games' style set-up" for the film, with the makers aiming to recreate a devastated Mumbai setting. "Large sections of the city will be digitally aged to give it an abandoned look."

The publication quoted a source, saying “Jai and his team are actively working on the screenplay, visual detailing, and the larger zombie universe. Ranveer too has been involved in creative discussions on a day-to-day basis.” According to the publication, the scale and genre of the film also demand intense physical and emotional preparation.    

Pralay is written by Mehta and Vishal Kapoor, and is being co-produced by Singh’s company, Ma Kasam Films, along with Hansal Mehta, Sameer Nair and Sahil Saigal.
