Celebrated Malayalam filmmaker Lijo Jose Pellissery (LJP) might soon make his first Tamil movie. A report on TwentyFourNews.com has hinted that LJP’s Tamil debut will be produced under Lokesh Kanagaraj’s banner titled ‘G-Squad’. It also suggests that the film will be led by actor Soori, fresh off the success of Maaman.

G Squad had most recently revealed that their film Benz would have Malayalam actor Nivin Pauly playing the main antagonist. Benz is the fourth instalment in Lokesh Kanagaraj’s action-packed cinematic universe, and it stars Raghava Lawrence and Samyuktha. If the news is confirmed, LJP will become the third director to work under G Squad. Kanagaraj is not directing Benz, but remains creatively involved, co-writing and co-producing the film.

LJP’s Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam (2022), starring Mammotty, had large stretches of dialogue that were in Tamil. The film, too, was shot almost entirely in Tamil Nadu, and the director has spoken at length about his connections to the language and its cinema.

Most recently, LJP was in the news for a controversy surrounding the release of his film Churuli (2019). Two days after actor Joju George expressed his dissatisfaction for having worked on Lijo Jose Pellissery’s Churuli, the director denied the charges made by the actor. The actor claimed he was not paid for his performance in Churuli and that he was not informed of the OTT release of its uncensored version.

Lijo Jose Pellissery posted his response on Facebook, detailing the exact remuneration (₹5,90,000) he paid Joju for playing Thankan Chettan in the film, a role that took three days of the actor's time. He wrote that he was urged to write this clarification only because of the hurt it caused other producers of the film. He added that the film, which received an ‘A’ (adult) rating, had never been released in theatres and that the High Court verdict was already out allowing the film’s use of expletives.

Lijo Jose Pellissery has since deleted the post after Jojo George called for a press conference to explain his stance.
