The lead actor’s debut feature 'The Legend' is considered a so-bad-its-good masterpiece
After acting and producing 2022’s cult favourite The Legend, the film’s lead ‘Legend’ Arul Saravanan, will next be seen in a film that will be directed by Durai Senthilkumar, the hit director of films like Kodi, Kaakhi Sattai and most recently, the Soori-starrer Garudan.
Garudan was released worldwide on 31 May 2024 to positive reviews and became commercially successful at the box-office. It was jointly produced by Vetrimaaran and K. Kumar under Grass Root Film Company and Lark Studios, and was also remade in Telugu as Bhairavam.
Images from Saravanan's next film’s launch re-appeared on social media on Monday with information of the film completing its shoot, and that it would be aiming for a December release.
The yet to be titled film, said to be a suspense thriller with action and romance, was reportedly targeting a Diwali 2025 release. The film’s lead had previously celebrated the wrap of the film’s shoot with the crew and also provided welfare assistance to differently-abled individuals at the event. Payal Rajput (RX 100, Venky Mama and Mangalavaaram) is the female lead. The rest of the cast include Shaam, Andrea Jeremiah, Baahubali Prabhakar, Santhosh Prathap and Baby Iyal.
The film is said to be based on real incidents set in Thoothukudi. The film’s music is by Ghibran, the cinematography is by S Venkatesh, and editing by Pradeep. It is produced by The Legend New Saravana Stores Productions.
Despite negative reviews and lacklustre collection of The Legend, Saravanan has amassed a unique fan following as a “so-bad-its-good masterpiece”which was directed by ad filmmakers JD-Jerry. He played the role of a scientist in the film, who returns to India to help create a drug that will cure diabetes. The big-budget social drama was a box-office disaster upon release is often cited as one of the worst Tamil films ever made.
