Four months after officially announcing the third part of the comedy franchise Hera Pheri, the makers have hit a new hurdle: Paresh Rawal has quit the movie. The veteran actor, who starred as the fan-favourite character Baburao Ganpatrao Apte, announced that he won't be returning to star in Hera Pheri 3.

Rawal took to X to confirm the development amid reports that he walked out of the third instalment following creative differences with filmmaker Priyadarshan, who had also helmed the cult 2000 comedy.

Hera Pheri 3 was supposed to be headlined by the film's original cast, including Akshay Kumar (as Raju) and Suniel Shetty (as Shyam). While Priyadarshan had directed the 2000 comedy, its sequel in 2006 was helmed by Neeraj Vora, who was also the writer of Hera Pheri.

"I wish to put it on record that my decision to step away from Hera Pheri 3 was not due to creative differences. I reiterate that there are no creative disagreement with the filmmaker. I hold immense love, respect, and faith in Mr. Priyadarshan, the film director," Rawal tweeted.

Rawal's exit comes after the trio had already shot an announcement video for the film. Hera Pheri 3 is being produced by Firoz Nadiadwala, known for backing movies like Awara Paagal Deewana (2002), Phir Hera Pheri (2006), and Welcome (2007).

Rawal just wrapped up another Priyadarshan film, Bhoot Bangla. The horror-comedy also stars Akshay Kumar, Tabu and Wamiqa Gabbi.
