Veteran actors Jayaram and Urvashi are reuniting for a Tamil film to be helmed by director Pandiraaj. The project, which does not have an official title yet, was confirmed by Jayaram during a recent interview on a podcast. In a conversation along with his son Kalidas Jayaram, the veteran actor stated, “In Pandiraaj sir’s direction, Urvashi and I are doing a Tamil film. We are reuniting after 20 years. According to Jayaram, production on the film has already begun, and both he and Urvashi have been required to do many takes for each scene because of their strong comedic instincts. He said that the frequent laughter from either actor on set has led to “about 10-15 takes for every scene. Either I laugh or Urvashi does.”

The pairing of Jayaram and Urvashi is regarded as iconic in both Tamil and Malayalam cinema. The duo, loved for their comic timing, have delivered memorable performances together in films such as Panchathanthiram, Kadinjool Kalyanam and Chakkikotha Chankaran. They last featured together in the Tamil anthology film Putham Pudhu Kaalai (2020).

Director Pandiraaj is known for work in the family comedy genre, with his most recent directorial being Thalaivan Thalaivii, a romantic drama starring Vijay Sethupathi and Nithya Menen. In its review of the film, The Hollywood Reporter India called it a familiar but fun family drama. "There are several moments of great fun and inventiveness that keep the film watchable, even if it remains strictly familiar. But after a wave of middle-class dramas all set within the city, is there any harm in returning to good old village life for a film we’ve all seen before, but might want to relish again?" the review said.
