The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has issued a scathing directive against Punjabi actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh and the team behind his upcoming film Sardaar Ji 3 for casting Pakistani actor Hania Aamir. Calling the decision an “anti-national act,” the film workers’ union has demanded that Dosanjh and the film’s producers and director be blacklisted by the Indian film industry and their Indian citizenship and passports revoked.

The controversy erupted after Dosanjh shared the trailer of Sardaar Ji 3, which is set for an overseas release on 27 June. The trailer confirmed Aamir’s presence in a leading role, prompting FWICE to issue a statement condemning the collaboration as a “shameful betrayal” of national interest, especially in the wake of the recent Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 lives.

In its statement, FWICE urged the Prime Minister and relevant authorities to take “strict and immediate action.” It said, “We respectfully urge that their passports be revoked without delay, and that they be permanently barred from availing any rights, privileges, or representation associated with Indian citizenship and national identity.”

Hania Aamir was described in the statement as “a vocal propagandist against India,” accused of mocking the Indian armed forces and justifying terrorist acts during recent escalations. The film body warned that any future collaborations with Pakistani nationals would be seen as promoting anti-India narratives.

“There is no place in the Indian film industry for such individuals,” FWICE said. “This is not just a call for boycott – this is a call for national solidarity.”

In response, Sardaar Ji 3 producer Gunbir Singh Sidhu stated that the film was shot before the recent Indo-Pak conflict and would not release in India “keeping in mind the present situation and the sentiments of Indian people.” He added they would wait for a more appropriate time for domestic release.

Meanwhile, Dosanjh has continued with the global promotion of the film, while also sharing a cryptic post referencing his previous project Panjab 95, which faced censorship challenges. The film, based on human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, remains unreleased in India. Despite the backlash, the team behind Sardaar Ji 3 appears committed to its international release, even as tensions within the Indian film industry escalate.
