Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 has captured theatres worldwide with a total gross of ₹125.25 crore on its first day, according to industry tracker Sacnilk. The Nelson Dilipkumar-directed sequel collected ₹70.25 crore in gross revenues and ₹59.70 crore net in India on Thursday, October 15, a significant start for the tentpole offering.

The film is performing well both in India and abroad. Its overseas gross stood at ₹55 crore, contributing nearly 44 per cent of its worldwide opening-day total. The international haul, combined with its domestic collections, takes the film past the ₹100 crore mark on its first day.

Released on October 15, Jailer 2 reunites Rajinikanth with director Nelson Dilipkumar and composer Anirudh Ravichander. The sequel also features S. J. Suryah, Vidya Balan, Mithun Chakraborty, among others. It also has special cameos by Hrithik Roshan and Vijay Sethupathi.

The film follows the events of the 2023 blockbuster Jailer, in which Rajinikanth played Tiger Muthuvel Pandian, a retired jailer drawn back into the criminal underworld after a personal tragedy. The original film became the highest-grossing Tamil release of 2023, earning more than ₹600 crore worldwide.

Picking up the narrative three years later, Rajinikanth returns as Tiger Muthuvel in Jailer 2. He now lives a low-profile life while continuing his undercover pursuit of the criminal syndicate tied to the first film. His mission draws him into a high-stakes war against the powerful Kalpak family (led by S.J Suryah) in Goa.

In its review, The Hollywood Reporter India called Jailer 2 a hilariously dark sequel that eventually settles for safety. “Maybe it’s the very qualities that make Nelson's films so enjoyable in the first place that keep him from finding a seamless transition from his quirky, dark-comedy sensibilities to more serious territory.”
