Tamil star and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay's long-delayed film Jana Nayagan might see the light of day in the theatres soon.
According to a report by The Hindu, the film has been examined by the Central Board of Film Certification, and a certificate is likely to be issued in the next two to three days. The news has prompted several admirers and industry experts to speculate that the film could be released in the month of July.
The film has been delayed since January 2026, when it was scheduled for release during Pongal. Directed by H Vinoth, the film is led by Vijay, who took the oath as the newly appointed Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu earlier this May.
The film has faced a series of obstacles since early this year, including delays in obtaining a censor certificate and an online leak before release. Venkat K. Narayana, the founder of KVN Productions, which bankrolled Jana Nayagan, has since been appointed as a Special Representative of the Tamil Nadu government in New Delhi, following Vijay's win at the Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu.
In an interview with India Today, Venkat K Narayana discussed the delayed film's release plans following Vijay's victory in politics. “We have to follow the law of the land. We need to receive the Censor certificate to release the movie in theatres. We applied for it in December. We all know what happened after that. The revision committee has also seen the movie. We are hoping that we get the Censor certificate at the earliest and that the movie will be released soon.”
The film, co-starring Pooja Hegde, Mamitha Baiju, and Bobby Deol, will have music by Anirudh Ravichander and is touted to be the actor-turned politician's last film.
