At the inauguration function of a new movie theatre in Kerala, director-actor Johny Antony made an announcement that has made headlines across social media: CID Moosa 2 is set to go on floors.

At the event, Antony spoke about the excitement being created in anticipation of all the major Malayalam films that are gearing up for release soon, which he encouraged viewers to watch only in cinemas.

Mohanlal’s Drishyam 3, Jayasurya’s Aadu 3 and Tovino Thomas Pallichattambi are all set to release soon. As he concluded his speech, he said, “Apart from these big films, I assure you that in 2027, we will also see the release of CID Moosa 2," he said as the audience cheered.

The first film of the franchise was directed by Antony in 2003 and starred Dileep, Harisree Ashokan, Bhavana, Cochin Haneefa, Jagathy Sreekumar and Salim Kumar among others.

Backed by Dileep’s Graand Productions, the film featured the star as a private detective. CID Moosa became a blockbuster upon its release, with a special fan following among younger audiences.

While Antony has announced the sequel, further details of the film, including its cast, have not yet been revealed.

During a promotional interview before the release of his film Bha Bha Bha (2025), Dileep had said that he did not allow the makers to borrow the iconic red car that was used in CID Moosa.

Bha BHa Bha had a sequence in which several old cars that featured in films were shown, but the convertible from CID Moosa, owned by Dileep himself, was not used. He said, “I wanted to keep it safe and ready, just in case we make CID Moosa 2," he had said. With Anthony’s announcement, this sequel seems to be on the table.

Dileep’s last release Bha Bha Bha had opened to mixed reviews and an average opening. Antony, on the other hand, hasn’t directed a film since Mammootty’s disastrous Thoppil Joppan in 2016. He has, however, transitioned to become a busy actor, recently starring in Haal (2025) and Magic Mushrooms this year.
