The trailer of the much-awaited Kannada film this year picks up where it left off in 2022. A young boy asks why his dad vanishes into the night in their forest as the trailer of Kantara A Legend Chapter 1 begins. "Whenever mankind strays in adharma, Lord Eshwara sends his Ganas to protect the dharma," a voiceover booms.

The prequel, which has been in the making for a few years, comes back more grandly this year, as it delves into the legend of a divine protector who jumps to save his forest. The film, which is a prequel to Rishab Shetty's sensational Kannada film Kantara (2022), promises to go years back in history to explore a battle between a cunning king Kulashekara (Gulshan Devaiah) and the people of the forest, led enigmatically by Berme (Rishab Shetty). There are mentions of a sacred stone, a Brahma rakshasa lurking in the forest, a Lord Eshwara (the possible divine protector), unethical trading in ports, and exploitation of the forest dwellers in the trailer.

The superbly cut trailer also shows us glimpses of Berme's friendship with Princess Kanakavathi (Rukmini Vasanth), further expanding on their forbidden but powerful relationship. "When I see him with the princess, it seems like he is clinging onto the throne," someone is heard telling the king. The video ends with the voice of the kid from the beginning, asking his dad if Lord Eshwara is still in the forest. The video then cuts to a shot of Rishab Shetty, his eyes glinting. If Kantara's Guliga trance was any proof, we know what's in store with the prequel.
