'Law And Order' Teaser: Prakash Varma Leads Director Ranjith’s Gritty Cop Actioner

A new teaser of director Ranjith’s Law And Order was released on Sunday, August 9. The video asset from the film introduces a five-member police team that is ready to go to any lengths to deliver justice. Prakash Varma of Thudarum fame plays the lead in the film, and the teaser features his voiceover describing his team and the nature of the missions they have undertaken so far. The 90-second teaser introduces four characters and is intercut with a fight sequence set in what appears to be a bar. An attack on the drug mafia could be the basis of their mission, as we see Prakash Varma’s senior police officer making a stylish entry. 

Abhirami too can be seen for a second in the teaser, in a role following her hit Tamil film Blast. Law And Order has been written by yesteryear hitmaker Udayarkrishna of the Udayakrishna-Sibi K Thomas writing team. It ends with the statement: “It’s duty time, boys”. 

It’s widely rumoured that Malayalam meegastar Mammootty will feature in a cameo in this film. He is expected to reprise the iconic character Karikkamury Shanmugham from Ranjith’s own previous film Black, which released in 2005.

Meanwhile, Mammootty's next reelase in a longer role could be in Tamil. Wunderbar Films released the promo and release date for Dhanush's 55th film on June 18, revealing its title as Om - Chapter 1: Udhiram: The Blood Wood. The Tamil-language film is set for a worldwide theatrical release on October 16, 2026.

Earlier this year, director Ranjith was arrested in connection with an attempted sexual assault case. He is regarded as a prominent figure in Malayalam cinema, known for directing acclaimed films like Indian Rupee and Spirit, winning three National Awards in his career.
