Malayalam filmmaker Ranjith was arrested on Tuesday (March 31) in connection with an attempted sexual assault case. He has been remanded in judicial custody for 14 days, 

, the action follows a complaint by a female actor, who alleged that Ranjith attempted to sexually assault her during the shooting of a film. In her statement, the actor claimed that the director had asked her to come to a caravan on set, where the alleged incident took place.

The confusion began when Sreenivasa Kumar, known as SKN, appeared at an event for 

and was pressed by attendees for updates on its release. In a video that circulated widely on social media, he appeared to indicate that 

, starring Ram Charan, had been rescheduled to 26 June, a claim that had not been formally announced by the film’s producers.

Given SKN’s industry standing, the comment was quickly taken at face value, fuelling speculation and drawing a swift reaction from fans. In an environment where release dates are tightly managed and often signal broader distribution strategies, even an offhand remark can carry disproportionate weight.

SKN later issued a clarification, attributing the error to a misunderstanding amid the noise of the event. According to his account, writer and co-producer Sai Rajesh had mentioned seeing online speculation about a possible new date for 

, while cautioning against announcing any plans for 

 until an official confirmation was made. SKN said he misheard this as confirmation that the June 26 date had already been locked.

In a video statement, he apologised for the “miscommunication”, adding that any update regarding a film of

The production had lined up a large-scale desert action sequence featuring Suhana and Anil Kapoor, who has an important role in the film. The filming is scheduled to begin on April 9 in the UAE. However, according to reports, the makers have scrapped the schedule entirely keeping the crew’s safety as their priority. 

According to a report in Mid-Day, the Dubai leg had been finalised months in advance, with all necessary permissions secured. “The team had procured the required approvals to shoot in Dubai. It was designed as a week-long schedule. However, given the dynamic situation in the region, the makers chose not to take any risks with the safety of the cast and crew,” a source told the publication. 

The sequence has now been relocated to Mumbai, where it will be filmed at a Vile Parle studio. The production design team has recreated a desert environment indoors to match the original scale. The source added, “They’ve gone all out to replicate the setting. This also gives the team greater control over action choreography and lighting conditions. The sequence opens with a chase and builds into an intense combat segment.”

One of the biggest Indian films of all time is finally here. Almost. The team of 

led by actor Ranbir Kapoor, director Nitesh Tiwari and producer Namit Malhotra, has started their promotions with a special screening of their visual asset from the film in Los Angeles. 

Titled the 'Rama' glimpse, the teaser will be launched in India on April 2, coinciding with Hanuman Jayanti. According to videos from the event in LA, the team attended the screening and held a brief QnA with the audience. 

Kapoor, who stars in the film as Lord Rama, called him a "conscience keeper of billions of people around the globe for centuries and long after."

Matka King, the forthcoming original series starring Vijay Varma, will premiere on Amazon Prime Video on 17 April, the platform confirmed on Sunday, releasing a teaser to coincide with the actor’s 40th birthday.

Set in Bombay in the 1960s, the series follows the fictional rise of Brij Bhatti, a cotton trader who devises a new gambling system — “matka” — transforming what begins as a niche pastime into a mass phenomenon. The premise situates personal ambition within a shifting urban landscape, where informal economies and social mobility intersect.

The show is created and written by Abhay Koranne and directed by Nagraj Popatrao Manjule, whose previous work has often drawn from marginalised lives and regional histories. Here, the narrative expands into a more expansive, period setting: crowded chawls, trading hubs and the evolving hierarchies of a city in transition.

Varma’s Bhatti is positioned as both architect and casualty of the system he builds, as the stakes of his enterprise grow beyond individual control. The series’ logline emphasises themes of legitimacy and belonging, framing the protagonist’s ascent as both aspirational and precarious.

The ensemble cast includes Kritika Kamra, Sai Tamhankar, Siddharth Jadhav and Gulshan Grover, alongside a larger supporting lineup. Production is led by Siddharth Roy Kapur under Roy Kapur Films, in collaboration with Aatpat and SMR Productions.

This will be Manjule's first directorial since his 2022 feature

The Indian film industry is still recalibrating its sense of scale as 

has redrawn the boundaries of what qualifies as a commercial success. The spy-action sequel, directed by Aditya Dhar, has grossed ₹1,365 crore worldwide in just 11 days at the box-office, including ₹867 crore net in India, overtaking the lifetime haul of its predecessor,

Trade analysts have pointed to the consistency of its daily collections as a key marker of its performance. Rather than the front-loaded trajectory typical of recent tentpoles, the film has held firm into its second weekend, suggesting both repeat viewings and continued audience inflow beyond opening-weekend curiosity.

The milestones cited by the makers include the highest paid previews for a Hindi film, the biggest opening weekend worldwide, and the fastest climb to ₹1,000 crore globally. It has also become the highest-grossing Indian title in North America (beating SS Rajamouli's

The brief was to create something deeply rooted in South Indian heritage, yet entirely fresh in its expression, say Abhishek Agarwal and Kaushik Kumar, managing directors of the brand. “Both Vijay and Rashmika came into the process with a strong sense of what they wanted. They were clear that the jewellery should not feel predictable or overly traditional in a conventional sense. Instead, it had to evolve with each function, shifting in mood, materiality and form, while still feeling cohesive as one story. There was also a shared desire to push boundaries, especially with Vijay’s jewellery, where the idea was to move beyond minimalism and explore a more complete, expressive language for the groom.”

Vijay’s jewellery choices went beyond just bold accessorising. With his stacked gold pieces, telling a story head to toe, he pushed the boundaries of groom jewellery. “Vijay’s wedding jewellery was conceived as a complete, intentional composition, not as isolated accents, but as a full ceremonial language for the groom,” say Agarwal and Kumar. At the core were the layered haars and neckpieces, which established the visual weight of the look. “The waistband, or vaddanam, extended this narrative further. Rather than being treated as a purely ornamental addition, it was designed to anchor the silhouette, adding a sense of regality and completeness to the ensemble. The bajuband and hand pieces introduced a more sculptural dimension. These elements were particularly significant because they are rarely explored in groom styling at this scale.”

The design language in these pieces included motifs of elephants, tigers and floral elements. “Techniques like deep Nakshi carving and detailed texturing ensured that each piece carried dimension and character.”As for Mandanna’s look, they worked on a fully realised composition with over thirteen pieces that worked together as one seamless silhouette. 

“Every element, from the layered harams to the jada billa, champasaralu, hathphool and vaddanam, was designed with precision, allowing the jewellery to feel sculptural yet fluid. Her look drew from a divine narrative, inspired by the iconography of Goddess Lakshmi, creating a presence that felt both powerful and ethereal.”

The process involved constant dialogue, multiple fittings and a shared commitment to refining every detail. “What made the journey particularly special was how involved both Vijay and Rashmika were, despite their demanding schedules. They approached each look with thought, curiosity, and a willingness to experiment, which allowed the designs to evolve organically,” they elaborate. 

When asked to recall the first reactions from the couple, they immediately have a memory to share. “Rashmika’s reaction, in particular, stayed with us. When she saw the wedding jewellery fully assembled, she paused, took it in, and smiled before saying, “You’ve done it.” It was simple, but deeply reassuring. There was a sense that she saw the vision exactly as it had been imagined, and that quiet acknowledgement meant a great deal after such an involved process.

SHREE Jewellers also worked on Aisha Rao’s showcase at the recently-concluded Lakme Fashion Week. For this collection, they brought together Art Deco influences and modern styling, reinterpreted through a contemporary lens. A few pieces from this collection stand out as strong indicators of where jewellery is headed, they add. 

“The oversized handcuff is one; it redefines jewellery placement, making it more sculptural and fashion-forward. The delicate ear cuff introduces a softer, more modern femininity, allowing for a statement without heaviness,” they say, noting that the naked setting stone is a move they were particularly excited about.

Actor Sayani Gupta is stepping into a new phase in her career with the launch of her production house, Sayani Gupta Movies (SGM). The actor's debut directorial short film, 

will become the maiden project under the banner.

"The reason I have always wanted to produce was so I could build a community of like-minded people and, together, create an enabling, nourishing space for collaboration," said Gupta, who has built her 14-year career across several acclaimed feature films and streaming titles.

An alumna of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune, Gupta’s varied body of work ranges from films such as 

"I have always believed that casting the crew is the most important thing. With the right collaborators, film sets can be magical. I constantly meet filmmakers who are looking for a home where they feel seen, and for partners they can trust, who will enable them to tell stories their way. It has been a long dream to one day create a space for that to happen. Hopefully, this is the first baby step in that direction," she added.

 has been written, directed and produced by Gupta. The film also stars Daria Bedi and Abhay Kaul.

Although she had previously co-produced feature films like 

 (2019), and several short films, backing 

, she said, was the "first step towards that intentional path of creating stories that I want to put out into the world, and most importantly, films that I would like to watch."

The actor said that as her first production, it was a mammoth task because of the sheer scope and scale of the shoot across distant locations. The team conducted a recce for over a year and found incredible locations across Maharashtra, with Pune becoming their base as it felt like her "second home from my alma mater, FTII."

"I was managing a set while also directing my first film, which was absolute madness, but in hindsight, deeply gratifying. We lucked out with a fantastic crew and a marvellous cast. I had incredible producing partners in Nikkhil Advani (Sumitra Gupta Foundation for Arts), and Dia Mirza and Ananya Rane (One India Stories). I am also currently producing two films through foreign co-productions, both in completely different genres," she added.
