Tamil actor Vishal directs and stars in 'Magudam'
Tamil actor Vishal's upcoming Tamil film Magudam has wrapped up filming. The team has finished filming after 17 days of shooting an intense climax portion. While the film's release date is yet to be announced, Magudam is set to have a 2026 release.
Through the press note, the makers announced, "And it's a wrap for the intense, extensive, and monumental climax schedule of Vishal's Magudam, a cinema spectacle, that unfolded over 17 consecutive days of rigorous shoot of 6 am to 6 pm (12 hours) filming. The epic sequence resonating much like a war featuring hundreds of artists and totality of 800 crew members including top computer graphics team and technicians stands as a testament to the film's scale, ambition, and artistry."
The film marks the directorial debut of Vishal, who took over the position recently. "Crafted with meticulous detail, it brings together raw emotion, visual grandeur, and breathtaking action. Marking Vishal's directorial debut, Magudam / Makutam is more than just a film — it's a creative odyssey that blurs the lines between performance and direction. Renowned action choreographer Dhilip Subbarayan has designed stunts of staggering intensity, close to reality, elevating the action to international standards," the note read.
The film is produced under the Super Good Films banner. In a surprise announcement on Diwali, a new poster of Magudam was put out, in which the actor is credited for direction duties. The film, which was earlier announced to be directed by Ravi Arasu, began its final leg of shooting in Tuticorin. GV Prakash Kumar is the film’s music director. While there were speculations about a feud between Vishal and Ravi Arasu, it was recently clarified that the director amicably stepped away from the project.
FEFSI (Film Employees Federation of South India) president RK Selvamani informed The Times of India that the issue between the two has been resolved. “There was a misunderstanding between director Ravi Arasu and Vishal. We have spoken to both and helped them reach a mutual understanding. The director himself has agreed to step away from the project...the issue has been amicably resolved,” Selvamani was quoted as saying.
