Malayalam star Mammootty, while discussing his role in Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra, recently revealed how he was “cheated” into his involvement in the film. The actor, who voiced the character of Moothon in the film, is not physically present in the film, as the character is introduced into the franchise with his voice and a shot of his hand holding a stick.

In an exclusive conversation with The Hollywood Reporter India, the actor shared the story of his joining. "They didn't tell me that I am there initially. He [Dulquer Salmaan] did not come, his friend came and asked me to give a voice. That is the only thing I did. Even the hand used in the film is not mine. When the film came, they said, 'It is you and your hand'," recalled Mammootty, sharing that the producer had not approached him firsthand and he was under the impression that he would be voicing a character.

However, the actor confirmed that he will be involved in the franchise. "Now, it has become my responsibility to act," he said, noting that while he has come to terms with it, he was initially unaware. When asked if he was not convinced to be part of future films in the Lokah franchise, Mammootty said, "If at all I convinced you, I have to convince you about my fees,” noting that the negotiation was a two-way process.

The Lokah franchise’s first chapter showcased Kalyani Priyadarshan as Chandra, a Yakshini-superhero. The franchise aims to mix modern threats with Indian folklore, with the first one exploring the world of vampires along with the Kerala folklore of Kalliyankaatu Neeli.
