After more than four decades of being in the Indian film industry, Mohanlal says he felt it was the right time to turn director with his upcoming fantasy epic Barroz, the trailer of which was launched in Mumbai on Wednesday.

The Malayalam superstar attended the event, which was graced by the cast and crew of the film along with actor Akshay Kumar, who was the special guest. Based on the book Barroz: Guardian of D'Gama's Treasure by Jijo Punnoose, the film is headlined by Mohanlal.

"It has been an honour to be a part of the Indian film industry for the last four decades, telling stories in different capacities. But this is something very special — I stand in front of you as a director of my film, which I never thought I would!" Mohanlal said as the audience clapped.

The 64-year-old actor said making Barroz was an extremely "personal" experience and called it a film layered with "emotions, adventures, magic, and wonder.”

"It is a 3D film shot with stereo lenses. We did the first 3D film in Malayalam, My Dear Kuttichathan, and after that two other films attempted to do it again. After 40 years, now someone is trying to come out with a 3D film. We have had incredible support from our technical team,” Mohanlal said.

"The film has been crafted with love for children and adults. So, just step into the theatre with an open heart to experience and explore the magical world of the film," he added.

At the event, when asked if the historic success of Pushpa 2: The Rule has paved the way for other pan-Indian films lined up for release, Mohanlal said, "Not just Pushpa, my humble prayer is that every film should run. The film industry's wheel has to turn, and that happens only with success.”

"Several big films are set to release now, including mine, and they should run. I did a film called Kaalapaani long back; it was a pan-Indian film! We are all trying," he smiled.
