Mohanlal and Vinayakan To Feature In Rajinikanth’s 'Jailer 2'?
Both actors were part of the first instalment of director Nelson’s franchise.
Actors Mohanlal and Vinayakan are both said to appear in director Nelson's Jailer 2, starring Rajinikanth, which is currently in production. Mohanlal is expected join the film’s sets in Goa after December 20, in what is reportedly a short three-day stint. He played the role of Rajinikanth’s friend, a gangster named Mathew, in the film’s first part.
Similarly, actor Vinayakan, who played the dreaded bad guy Varman in the first film, said during a recent press event that he would feature in Jailer 2. It is unclear at the moment if he will be reprising the same character, in what perhaps might be a flashback portion (Varman dies during the climax of the first film).
Jailer also featured much-hyped cameos by actors such as Shiva Rajkumar from Kannada cinema, Jackie Shroff from Hindi and Sunil from Telugu.
Superstar Rajinikanth most recently announced the release date of Jailer 2. The sequel to the 2023 blockbuster will hit theatres on June 12, 2026. Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, the shooting of Jailer 2 is currently underway in multiple locations around the country. Most recently, the makers were filming in Palakkad in Kerala. Several pictures and videos of Rajinikanth, Nelson and others from the film's cast and crew made the rounds on social media.
Jailer (2023) followed the life of a retired jailer named Muthuvel Pandian, played by Rajinikanth, who tries to find his missing son and ends up crossing paths with an eccentric idol smuggler, Vinayakan's Varman. The action-comedy became a blockbuster and the highest-grossing Tamil film of 2023. Produced by Sun Pictures, Jailer 2 looks to be a continuation of the storyline from the first part, which also starred actors like like Ramya Krishnan, Vinayakan, Tamannaah Bhatia, Vasanth Ravi and Yogi Babu.
Notably, actors Mohanlal and Shiva Rajkumar appeared in much-hyped cameos in the film.
