Naga Chaitanya Doubles Down With 'Dhootha' Season 2 As Actor And Producer

Earlier today, Naga Chaitanya took to Instagram to announce that he will be returning for the second season of his highly acclaimed 2023 horror-thriller series Dhootha, this time stepping into a dual role as an actor and producer.

"Auspicious beginnings as I step into the second chapter of Dhootha and my first step as a producer. Onwards and upwards. Here’s to the magic ahead," his caption read.

Directed by Vikram K. Kumar, the release of the series in December 2023 marked Chaitanya's OTT debut. He plays Sagar Verma, an influential journalist who rises to role of Chief Editor at a Samacharam, an acclaimed newspaper, until his life takes a sudden turn by mysterious newspaper clippings that foretell tragic events in his life. The actor starred alongside co-actors Priya Bhavani Shankar, who plays Priya Avudhuri, and Parvathy Thiruvothu who plays DCP Kranthi Shenoy, both assuming pivotal roles.

Annapurna Studios and NorthStar Entertainment Pvt. Ltd. are jointly producing the project, with Vikram K Kumar set to continue the intriguing world he established earlier. The project was formally launched today through a traditional puja ceremony.

Several key figures from the original production are set to return, including producer Sharrath Marar, director Vikram Kumar, and co-stars Shankar and Thiruvothu claiming their original roles. Additional cast and crew members will be announced later. While the possibility of a second season had first been hinted at back in June 2024, it is now officially moving forward with the filming process.

Chaitanya is also set to lead the upcoming film Vrushakarma, directed by Karthik Varma Dandu, with Meenakshi Chaudhary as the female lead.
