Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Pavan Malhotra To Star in Ravi Varma’s Dark Comedy 'Blind Babu'
The film marks action director Ravi Varma’s Bollywood directorial debut, promising a suspenseful dark comedy with Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Pavan Malhotra in the lead.
Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Pavan Malhotra have teamed up to star in Blind Babu, a dark comedy that officially went on floors this week. The film marks the Bollywood directorial debut of stunt director Ravi Varma, known for his work on Raees (2017), Mission Majnu (2023), and Gadar 2 (2023).
Production kicked off with the cast and crew sharing behind-the-scenes glimpses on social media. One photo shows Siddiqui and Varma holding a clapperboard with the film’s title, while another captures the entire team coming together for a group shot. The post teased the film’s tone: “Ab bomb phatega ya kuch aur? Get ready for the chaos that will trap you in edge-of-the-seat suspense… but with dark comic relief… The journey of #BlindBabu begins now!”
Varma expressed his excitement on Instagram, writing, “Thrilled to announce my debut Bollywood film as a director! Honored to be working alongside the phenomenal Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Pavan Malhotra. Proud to bring this story to life.”
The film’s ensemble also includes veteran actors Zakir Hussain and Mukesh Tiwari. While the plot remains under wraps, the early teasers suggest a darkly comic thriller, promising suspense laced with humour.
For Siddiqui, Blind Babu adds to an already diverse portfolio. He will play the antagonist in Thama, starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna, and was last seen in the biographical drama Costao on ZEE5. Siddiqui recently won Best Actor at the New York Indian Film Festival for his performance in Aditya Kripalani’s I’m Not an Actor. Malhotra, meanwhile, was last seen in the courtroom comedy-drama Court Kacheri.
With Blind Babu, Ravi Varma makes his directorial debut, bringing years of experience as a stunt director to the project. His understanding of timing, tension, and on-set dynamics is expected to shape the film’s tone, while the talented cast ensures that audiences are in for a suspenseful, entertaining ride.
