Nayanthara Asks Fans to Stop Using 'Lady Superstar' Tag

The actor posted on social media that while she was grateful for the love she has received, such titles can sometimes create an image that distances an artist from their craft.

Actor Nayanthara has released a statement, requesting her fans and well-wishers to only refer to her by name, and not use the sobriquet of "Lady Superstar".

The Tamil star, who last theatrical release was Annapoorani (2023), posted on social media that while she was grateful for the love she has received, such titles can sometimes create an image that distances an artist from their craft.

Nayanthara wrote, “Many of you have graciously referred to me as ‘Lady Superstar,’ a title born out of your immense affection. I owe you all a lot for crowning me with such a valuable title. However, I humbly request you all to call me ‘Nayanthara.’ This is because I feel that the name is what I hold closest to my heart.”

She added, “Titles and accolades are priceless, but they can sometimes create an image that separates us from our work, our craft, and the unconditional bond we share with you — the audience."

The actor's documentary Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairytale was released on Netflix last year. On the film front, she has the likes of Sundar C's Mookuthi Amman 2, Mahesh Narayanan's MNMM, Senthil Nallasamy's Rakkayie and S. Sashikanth's Test in the pipeline.
