Netflix Renews Ishaan Khatter, Bhumi Pednekar's 'The Royals', Announces Season Two of 'Black Warrant'

While the renewal of 'The Royals' comes within a month of its release, 'Black Warrant' was the streamer's standout success when it dropped on January 10.

Netflix announced on Wednesday that it has renewed two of its shows: Ishaan Khatter and Bhumi Pednekar-led The Royals and Vikramaditya Motwane's acclaimed crime drama series Black Warrant.

While the renewal of The Royals comes within a month of its release, Black Warrant was the streamer's standout success when it dropped on January 10.

Directed by Priyanka Ghose and Nupur Asthana, The Royals also starred Vihaan Samat, Sakshi Tanwar, Zeenat Aman, Kavya Trehan, and Nora Fatehi. The romantic comedy debuted to mixed reviews, being panned primarily for its writing.

Announcing season two of the show, Netflix posted a creative on Instagram and wrote, "Old money, new blood and a new season is in the works 👑🐎 The Royals Season 2 is coming soon, only on Netflix."

Meanwhile, Black Warrant, created by Motwane and Satyanshu Singh, starred Zahan Kapoor, Rahul Bhat, Paramvir Singh Cheema, and Anurag Thakur. The show, presented by Applause Entertainment, was based on the 2019 non-fiction book Black Warrant: Confessions of a Tihar Jailer by Sunil Gupta and Sunetra Choudhury, about Gupta's time as a jailer at Tihar Prisons.

"Welcome to Season 2, Jailer sahab 🫡 Black Warrant Season 2 is coming soon, only on Netflix," Netflix wrote on Instagram.

The Royals was written by Neha Veena Sharma, Vishnu Sinha and Iti Agarwal and backed by Pritish Nandy Communications. The eight-episode series followed the lives of a financially struggling royal family, whose fortunes take a turn when the heir teams up with a hospitality entrepreneur to revive their ancestral palace as a luxury resort.

While Khatter starred as Prince of Morpur, Aviraaj “Fizzy” Singh, Pednekar played entrepreneur Sophia." THR India, in its review, had called the series "unfunny, uncharismatic and uncool all at once."

There are no details on when the shows will begin production.
