Pawan Kalyan is back with a bang. The actor-politician’s latest outing, OG, has delivered a thunderous opening, grossing an estimated ₹155 crore worldwide on its first day, including paid premieres. This marks Kalyan’s biggest-ever debut and places the film comfortably in the list of the top 10 biggest openers in Indian cinema.

The Sujeeth-directed gangster drama got a head start with special premieres across India on September 24, raking in ₹20.25 crore nett. Overseas, the film has been a juggernaut, pulling in $3 million (₹26 crore) from paid premieres in the US alone and an estimated $6 million (₹50 crore) overall. According to early estimates, OG has crossed the ₹100 crore mark in India, and the final figures are expected to confirm its place as the seventh-highest opener in Indian film history.

With this, OG has overtaken the first-day hauls of recent blockbusters like Animal (₹116 crore), Jawan (₹128 crore), Leo (₹143 crore), and Coolie (₹153 crore). The film now has its sights set on the collections of Salaar (₹158 crore) and KGF Chapter 2 (₹159 crore), though it still trails behind the three record-breaking openers — Pushpa 2: The Rise (₹274 crore), RRR (₹223 crore) and Baahubali 2 (₹215 crore).

The strong numbers come as a shot in the arm for Kalyan, whose previous release, Hari Hara Veera Mallu, earned ₹116.82 crore in its lifetime run. Early reactions from fans have been glowing, with social media buzzing about Kalyan’s performance and Sujeeth’s slick storytelling.

Produced by DVV Danayya and Kalyan Dasari under DVV Entertainments, OG features Priyanka Mohan as Dr Kanmani, along with Prakash Raj, Arjun Das, Sriya Reddy, Shaam, Harish Uthaman, and Rahul Ravindran. Emraan Hashmi makes his Telugu debut with the film, which also includes a cameo by Jackie Shroff.

Day 2 early estimates indicate the film is holding steady, with ₹4.47 crore nett coming in across languages in India. All eyes are now on the weekend numbers to see if Kalyan’s return can sustain its scorching pace.
